DEHRA DUN/NEW DELHI: Rek-ha, mother of 18 year old Abhimanyu, disputed Dehra Dun police's claim that her son was driving the car when the accident took place. "The vehicle seized by police was being driven by our driver Bhajan Singh, and not my son, as claimed by the cops," Rekha told TOI.She said her son returned to their Sector 34 home in Chandigarh after the accident and that Abhimanyu's father, an advocate in Punjab and Haryana HC, was looking into the matter.
She also said the car, which has a Delhi registration number — DL-3C AK-5828, was provided by Renu's brother-in law.
The Dosco trio "was out with some friends from other valley schools. They had got together to celebrate the end of examinations at a bar. But when they learnt that two Doon School teachers had found out, the party was shifted to a farm house on East Canal Road where they all got drunk," said a police source. "The students at the party had four cars. After the party, they were racing on Rajpur Road, when the motorcyclists were hit by the car in which police found I-cards and notebooks of these three boys."Police have seized the car and registered a case based on a complaint filed by Vikrant's father. Uday's parents said none of the boys in the Honda City were drunk. "Uday's exams finished on March 28. We were in Dehra Dun. He went to the railway station to see off a friend leaving on the Mussoorie Express. The three then left for dinner. On the way, they stopped at a friend's house to pick him up, but he had already left," said his father. He said Abhimanyu was driving the car at 60 kmph and trying to overtake a car.
